"Enthusiasm Gap" Could Indicate GOP Nov. Turnout Advantage

September 2nd, 2010

Republican candidates already have a 10-point lead on the generic congressional ballot, the largest lead since Gallup began polling the generic ballot in 1942.  However, polls don't win elections.  Voters win elections.

Thus far this primary season, the GOP has turned out 3 million more voters than the Democrats.  While historically it is common for the party not holding the White House to make gains in Congress during non-presidential election years, the widening "enthusiasm gap" between the right and the left should have Democrats worried.

With two months to go until the midterm election, the Republican Party could make even greater gains.  Republican candidates in Wisconsin, including Ron Johnson, Scott Walker, and Sean Duffy, have already received national media coverage for their commonsense solutions to America's fiscal crisis.

Make sure you are registered to vote this November.  Click here to volunteer, and most importantly, don't forget to vote.  Let's get America back on track and make Wisconsin red again!

Poll: Americans Trust GOP on Key Issues

September 1st, 2010

Americans across the country believe that the Republicans in Congress would do a better job of dealing with major election issues, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll released today.

When asked if Republicans or Democrats in Congress would do a better job of dealing with issues including terrorism, immigration, federal spending, the situation in Afghanistan, and others, those polled agreed that Republicans would do a better job dealing with all issues except the environment.

When asked which party would do a better job dealing with health care, Republicans and Democrats are in a near tie.  Historically, Democrats have fared better in polling on health care.  However, after the highly publicized failures within the Democrats' government-takeover of health care bill, Republican gains should come as no surprise.

Over the past two years, Democrats in Congress have let our nation down and it is now time for a GOP comeback.  Make sure you are registered and get out and vote this November!

Another Stimulus Failure

August 27th, 2010

According to Vice President Joe Biden, the Obama administration "hit the accelerator" on home weatherization as part of the stimulus bill. However, Biden failed to mention that the weatherization program is among the most dysfunctional spending projects, even in the massively dysfunctional stimulus bill.

Since the weatherization program began nearly 18 months ago, it has experienced spending delays, inefficiencies, and mismanagement.  Even in Biden's home state of Delaware, the program has been suspended since May and possible fraud has been identified.

The truth behind Biden's rhetoric is that in Alaska, the program has yet to weatherize a single home.  In Texas, the private contractor that received most of the stimulus dollars in the state did shoddy work on 60 percent of the homes it was hired to weatherize.  In California, a company hired to caulk low-income residents' homes didn't train two dozen of its employees.

To top it off, the Energy Department's inspector general complained of "little progress" in the weatherization program.  So, not only is the federal government clearly overstepping its constitutional duties, but it is also wasting billions of taxpayer dollars in the process.

If that's what Joe Biden is bragging about, imagine what he's disappointed with.

The Flaw in Obama's Rhetoric

August 24th, 2010

The Democrats are clearly panicking on the economy, and for good reason.  This election is going to center on jobs and the economy, and the Democrats have a disastrous record on both.  So they're doing what Washington insiders always do: spin, distract and deflect.

President Obama and the Democrats have stuck by two consistent talking points: this is all President Bush's fault and electing Republicans in 2010 would bring us back to the policies that got us into this Recession in the first place.

Let's get real.

The Democrats have been in 100% control in both Madison and Washington for the last year and a half, and blaming President Bush for our current problems is wearing thinner and thinner.

Steve Huntley in a Chicago Sun Times op-ed pointed out the latest flaw in Obama's rhetoric:

Polls show the country is shouting "no" to driving forward with the Obama administration's un-restrained spending and trillion-dollar-plus deficits. Going ahead with such policies only drives the nation further into that ditch. A stimulus package that promised to hold unemployment at 8 percent inspired little public confidence as jobless soared toward 10 percent.

Obama likes to blame the Bush tax cuts for the nation's economic troubles. Yet it was a tremendous housing bubble — fueled by the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates too low for too long and by government promoting homeownership regardless of the ability of some Americans to keep up with even no-down-payment, no-interest, no-document mortgages — that burst and brought down the economy. Still, Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan says the administration remains committed to "broad access to homeownership."

The Democrats are currently putting the “pedal to the metal” with reckless spending, job-killing policies, and socialized health care. This troublesome plan is leading the country towards a cliff of economic disaster similar to what is happening in Greece. The Democrats have taken the country down the wrong road, and they need to be pulled over.

Did Your Dead Uncle Vote in 2008?

August 23rd, 2010

"We're Watching Wisconsin Elections," a nonpartisan organization, is dedicated to ensuring YOUR vote counts in the upcoming elections.  There is a lot at stake this year, and to ensure a clean elections cycle, citizen participation is vital.

The first step to ensuring your vote is not discounted is Voter Public Access, a valuable tool that enables you to check your own voter registration status and the status of your family and friends, living, deceased, or those who have moved to another area by entering a name and birth date.  Who knows, you may discover that someone is voting in Wisconsin that shouldn't be!

If you do, call your municipal clerk and have the incorrect name removed from the list.  While you're calling them, ask the clerk for all of the voters at your address.

In both cases, if you find an incorrect registration, check to make sure that name has not voted in any of the last elections on www.vpa.wi.gov. If they have, a felony has been committed and you should file a complaint with your local District Attorney's office.

Currently, there are 70,000 on the Statewide Voter Registration List that have failed the required registration identification checks.  However, the Government Accountability Board refuses to take these names off the list because they might "disenfranchise" someone.

What ObamaCare Does to America's Seniors

August 19th, 2010

Think ObamaCare won't affect you?  Think again.

According to President Obama's chief actuary, Obama's government-run health care takeover cuts $575.1 billion from Medicare.  These cuts will affect everything from coverage to prices to access.  Additionally, the government-run health care bill includes billions in tax increaes on seniors–probably an unwelcome surprise to many on fixed incomes.

President Obama's chief actuary confirms that up to 50 percent of seniors will lose their Medicare Advantage plan as a result of the $145 billion in cuts ObamaCare makes to the program.  ObamaCare also eliminates a tax subsidy that encouraged the former employees of retirees to continue to offer prescription drug coverage.

ObamaCare also hikes taxes on medical device manufacturers, prescription drug companies, and health insurance companies by $107.1 billion. These tax increases will ultimately be passed on to all Americans who are forced to pay for the increases in order to keep these companies in business.

Additionally, ObamaCare cuts $233 billion from Medicare Part A and B payments to hospitals, nursing facilities, and home health agencies.  As a result, 15 percent of Medicare Part A providers could become unprofitable and drop out of Medicare entirely. In turn, this would jeopardize access to care for seniors.

Legislative Democrats are running on a campaign of scare tactics and lies, but according to this Gallup poll, seniors aren't buying it.  Pass on the word to your loved ones that despite campaign rhetoric, ObamaCare could be costing them their livelihood.

Early Release Criminals Commit More Crimes

August 19th, 2010

Three criminals released before their sentences were up, as a result of Governor Doyle's early-release program, have committed more crimes.  Despite the warnings of legislative Republicans, state Democrats forced the controversial proposal through, and now the state is feeling the consequences.

According to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, three criminals released during the first wave of early release have committed new crimes–ranging from drugs to theft.

"It's alarming that some of these people are re-offending," said Rep. Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford), a vocal opponent of the early-release program since it began.  "I think there are going to be more.  I suspect that's why (the Corrections Department) is being overly cautious.  In reality, they are not releasing that many people.  As a result, they have not achieved the savings they said they would."

Letting criminals off easy is not the solution to Wisconsin's budget shortfall.  Wisconsin's last budget was crafted behind closed doors and without bipartisan input, and as a result the people of our state are suffering.  Taxpayers' deserve legislators who create sound, safe, and transparent budgets–not those who write irresponsible budgets and then try to band-aid the problem with dangerous proposals.

Whose Agenda is Truly "Extreme"?

August 19th, 2010

The next time you hear Democrats blasting the GOP agenda as "extreme," it's pretty clear America thinks otherwise, highlighted in this NRSC video. If you've felt like your views aren't being reflected in the agenda Democrats have shoved through, you're clearly not alone.

The Truth About Social Security

August 18th, 2010

You may have already heard it.

The Democrats are claiming Republicans want to "end Social Security," or "kill" it,  or something along those lines.  Welcome to the first of many lies, distortions and scare tactics the Democrats have up their sleeve.

You see, the Democrats really, really don't want to talk about their job-killing record in Washington and Madison.  And if it takes an absolute whopper of a lie about Social Security to distract from it, so be it.

But, the facts tell a different story.

Without making any reforms, Social Security will begin running permanent deficits by 2015 and by 2037 the Social Security piggy bank will be exhausted.  What do the Democrats think about that?  President Obama said, "Social Security is not in crisis."

Republicans, such as Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, have offered reform-based solutions to address the impending crisis, which America's seniors, and their children, and their childrens' children are going to face if no changes are made.  These changes have become even more urgent as the baby-boomers head toward retirement age.

Contrary to the breathless lies and hyperbole coming from the Democrats, Paul Ryan's plan does not end Social Security.  The way the Roadmap restores financial solvency is by providing workers with the option of investing a third of their payroll taxes into personal savings accounts.  No changes are made to existing Social Security recipients.

Because investments in secure funds consisting of equities and bonds receive a higher rate of return, these accounts would allow workers to have a larger retirement safety net than the current program provides.

As these accounts accumulate wealth, they will replace the funding that comes through the government's pay-as-you-go system.  In turn, the government will have to spend less, retirees can have a sound future, and Social Security can afford to keep its commitments.

So the next time you hear a lie about the Republican stance on Social Security, you'll know it's nothing more than the Democrats' constant effort to scare seniors into believing lies about the GOP.
